Media Junky #18 Winter 2013 (review zine)

This half size, black & white, cut & paste, sixteen pager is crammed with reviews. Jason Rodgers reviews submitted material with a physical address, exclusively (that`s why I wrote me address, so he will finally review my small newsletter) . Media Junky promotes DIY cultural resistance. There`s lots of DIY, independent  chapbooks, zines, newsletters out there. Jason gives a voice to the voiceless, the fringe, the kooks (aren`t we all), the weird, the old school, anti-technology. Some people would state that he`s anti-evolution. I, on the other hand think he`s anti-devolution. In a world of intellectual apathy, of high speed internet, of S phones (yes, stupid phones), of faceshit, shitfaced, and twitter… When reading a  paragraph, a text with more than 140 characters feels like reading a motherfucking encyclopedia. I`m happy that Media Junky exists. It represents a stand, a strong statement for underground, independent DIY projects. It`s an amazing read, I totally recommend it. Now don`t just stand there, send him something to review and don`t forget to write your address. Contact here:

The Juniper # 15 (summer 2012) & # 16 (spring \ summer 2013) (zines)

Those are twelve pages long, half size, black & white, cut & paste, zines about gardening, going back to mother nature and leaving a simple life. In my backyard, I grow rhubarb and chives. I love chives, they go great with egs salads, soups and potatoes. I`m not a gardening expert though. This is an  interesting, philosophical and educational read. There`s articles about: me and my bicycle (the freedom and joy of riding a bike),  Greenwoman magazine (amazing biography of da peanut guy, George Washington Carver), asparagus with chive blossoms recipe (simply mouth watering), variety trials in your personal garden (basic gardening knowledge for beginners), the human experience as a universal trajectory (nice intellectual article), slowing down (a stunningly beautiful piece of positive energy, a welcome change in the usual nihilistic, dark, bleak, sarcastic, no future, negative literature out there), raised bed gardening (never heard of this concept before), and gardening with a greater purpose (never though of gardening that way). Daniel Murphy is passionate about gardening, zining and punk music. Highly recommended. You can contact him here:

Give Me Cassettes Or Give Me Death / # 1-2-3 (zine)

Jeremy `Satan`s God` Bequette send me the first three issues of GMCOGMD. This is a 8.5  by 11 inches, black and white cut and paste publication (every issue is 20 pages long). GMCOGMD is a thrift store cassette review zine.  Once in a while I visit thrift stores and check out the music. Usually there`s nothing interesring, no Sonic Disorder, Vaginal Discharge, Lull or Elmore James cassettes. You will find tons of one hit wonders, eighties hair metal bands, crappy commercial soundtracks, shitty rap, forgotten gems (which should simply lay forgotten), and maybe some thing worthwhile after all.  I had a good time reading this because Jeremy never takes himself too intellectually \ seriously, his reviews are highly vulgar and offensive, in a juvenile matter. I read some reviews of  commercial garbage that I bought a long time ago. Here`s a small humiliating list of said tapes:

Yes – 90125: remember `owner of of a lonely heart`? Yes,  that bad.

Jesus Jones – doubt; right here, right now another one hit wonder. And last but not least:

Rednex – sex and violins. Cotton- eyed Joe a mix of hillbilly music and techno. HEEH HAW losers!!! Now let me get my puke bag so I can purge myself. Highly recommended. Feel free to conctact him:

The Mudshits - Hell Yeah (cassette)

Haltapes have been around since 1982 (and still going on strong today). They`ve been active for more than thirty years. Thirty years of homemade experimental music and more than two hundred releases, now that`s something. It commands respect indeed. This ninety minutes tape was recorded on march sixteen, 2013. The `band`consists of the following members: Jiblit Dupree (voice, guitar, percussion, trumpet), Hollis Smith (voice, slinky/drumstick, resonator guitar, tambourine, computer piano thing, bells, concertina), Hal McGee ( voice, organ, percussion, keyboard, synth, bass, diddley bow), Mark McGee ( tubanos, talking drum, caxixi, washboard).  I don`t know if they recorded this straight or not. If not, I`d say that the booze and ganja must have felt great that day. It seems like they had an amazing time recording this. It sounds like a drunken \ stone (perhaps) psychedelic \ psychotic \ schizophrenic controlled \ maybe out of control \ improvised jam session (all fourteen tracks included) . Not an easy listen, it`s a mental and emotional challenge. That`s why I like Haltapes you never know where this is going. Expect the unexpected, indeed. More information here:   Hal McGee

Steele Grinder Volume – 1 (cassette)

This is a massive (90 minutes long) international noise compilation. If you`re not into noise, then stop reading this right fucking now. Upon the first listen, and I was hooked immediately, This compilation has lots of interesting stuff going on. There`s some harsh noise (To-Bo, Koobaatoo Asparagus, Body 13, Wayne Mason, Exclamation Point, Selei Jack, Stimer,  Bedawang, Meinkinder and Kenji Siratori, Durastatic, Eugenoise, Cosby SK), some ambient noise (Der Domestizierte Mensch, Porraloka), some rhythmic noise ((hiyohiyoipseniyo), some experimental noise (live,L'ÉClipse Nue, Total ET, Newton, Oubliette, Electric Inertia, Third 1, Billy Eubank), some grungy really noisy  kinda rock and roll thang ( Bumburum, Fret, Brandon Jackson). I highly recommend this. With twenty five different bands \ artists you can`t go wrong. You can find more information here:
